The Haskell Free Library and Opera House is pleased to host the official book launch, in the Townships, of Affair with China, the compelling new work by photographer and writer Gabriel Safdie, on Friday, May 22 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Blending striking photography with reflective narrative, Affair with China offers a powerful journey through four decades of transformation. Drawing on Safdie’s extensive travels across China from the 1980s to the 2020s, the book captures the beauty, complexity, and contradictions of a nation in motion—seen through a deeply personal and observant lens.

The event will feature a book launch and informal conversation with the author, offering attendees the opportunity to engage directly with Safdie and explore the stories behind his images and experiences.
